Equinox was a live painting inspired by the legacy of jazz saxophonist John Coltrane on his 100th birthday, which is on September 23rd the Autumnal Equinox. The painting was created in front of an audience alongside DJ Pari, an avid jazz enthusiast and collector who played a curated list of John Coltrane songs. The mixed media was cut out and arranged spontaneously prior to the execution of the rest of the painting. John Coltrane is one of my biggest inspirations in that he courageously used his musical practice to generate a deeper connection to cosmic consciousness. Coltrane created a song called Equinox so I decided to name my tribute to him with the same title.
